#1: 27 year old male
construction worker with severe low
back pain since lifting a heavy bag
at work referred by his primary care
doctor for evaluation and treatment.
He was taking pain medication prescribed
by his primary care physician, but
it provided only minimal relief.
The patient was evaluated and received
an osteopathic treatment at his first
visit. He returned for follow-up
visit one week later and reported
that his pain was decreased by 80%
since the treatment. He stated that
he no longer needed to take his pain
medication. He returned for a follow-up
visit after his second treatment
and reported his pain was now completely
gone.
Case
#2: A 34 year old
pregnant female with moderate to
severe low back, thigh, and groin
pain since the 23rd week of her pregnancy
referred by her obstetrician/gynecologist
for evaluation and treatment. The
patient evaluated and received an
osteopathic treatment. After one
treatment, she reported that her
low back pain was gone and her thigh
and groin pain was significantly
better. She received osteopathic
treatment for the remainder of her
pregnancy and reported substantial
pain relief.
Case
#3: A 63 year old
female with neck pain that started
after a long trip on an airplane.
The patient was referred by her primary
care physician for evaluation and
treatment. The patient was evaluated
and received an osteopathic treatment.
After her first treatment she reported
the pain was completely resolved.
Case
#4: A 72 year old
female with COPD (emphysema) and
complaints of shortness of breath
and fatigue referred by her internist
for evaluation and treatment. The
patient was evaluated and received
an osteopathic treatment.
After her initial treatment, she reported
less fatigue for several days, as well
as more ease of breathing. She continues
to receive osteopathic treatment twice
monthly and finds it increases her energy
level and allows her to breathe more
comfortably.
Case #5: A 30 year old female with nausea, decreased appetite, and
stomach cramps for one day is diagnosed with viral gastrointenstinal upset (Viral
Gastroenteritis) by her primary care physician, and referred for osteopathic
evaluation and treatment. The patient was evaluated and received an osteopathic
treatment. During the treatment, the patient reported decreased nausea and a
feeling that her stomach had "settled down". Hours after the treatment her stomach
cramps were significantly decreased and she had improved appetite. She was completely
well the next day.
Case #6: A 27 year old physician with chronic sinus congestion referred
by her ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) physician for osteopathic evaluation and treatment.
The patient was evaluated and received an osteopathic treatment. After one treatment
she reported a noticeable change in her level of congestion. After 3 treatments
she was able to discontinue taking decongestant medications. She now reports
only minor, occasional symptoms that do not require medication.
Case #7: A 42 year old male attorney
with tension headaches 3-4 times weekly, as well as migraine headaches 2-3 times
per month. The migraines cause him to miss work 3-4 days/month. The patient takes
pain medications prescribed by his neurologist for his headaches but reports
only moderate relief, and dislikes the side effects of the medications. The patient
was referred for osteopathic evaluation and treatment by his neurologist. The
patient was evaluated and received an osteopathic treatment. The patient was
seen for follow-up one week after his initial osteopathic evaluation and treatment.
In the week since receiving osteopathic treatment the patient reported one tension
headache which was 50 % less intense than usual. Following two additional osteopathic
treatments, the patient reported his headaches were less frequent and less intense.
He has continued to report decreased intensity and frequency of both his tension
and migraine headaches.
Case #8: 63 year old with
neck pain for approximately one month.
He was evaluated and received an osteopathic
treatment. The patient reported complete
resolution of his pain after one treatment.
Case #9: A 28 year old pregnant
woman with low back pain for approximately
6 weeks. She was evaluated and received
an osteopathic treatment. During the
treatment the patient reported feeling
a "big difference" in the level of discomfort
in her low back. In a follow-up
phone call three days after the initial
treatment the patient reported that her
low back pain was completely gone.
Case
#10: A 32 year old woman
with severe upper back pain and arm pain.
She was evaluated and received an osteopathic
treatment. The patient reported her pain
was 80% improved after the initial treatment.
The patient returned for follow-up examination
and osteopathic treatment. After
the second treatment the patient reported
that her pain disappeared after the second
treatment.
