Osteopathic treatment (also known as osteopathic manual medicine) is a hands-on medical treatment performed by a licensed physician that relieves pain, facilitates healing from medical problems, and supports your body's natural healing ability. Osteopathic treatment locates and addresses the core issues in your body that are causing pain and disease, instead of just treating the symptoms themselves. Osteopathic treatment builds a better body as a foundation for health and wellness. Osteopathic treatment also activates your body's natural tendency towards wellness and supports your body's natural blueprint for health.
Traumas such as car accidents, falls, and sports injuries, and even the strains of day-to-day life can disrupt the normal anatomy and physiology of our bodies and overwhelm our natural ability to heal. When your body's natural ability to heal is overwhelmed, pain and disease result. Hands-on osteopathic treatment moves your body back into balance and towards health by supporting your body's natural blueprint for health. When your body is in balance, health follows.
Osteopathic treatment is not chiropractic, physical therapy, or massage. It is a gentle, powerful, non-invasive, holistic medical treatment performed by a licensed physician that helps your body to heal itself.
Osteopathic treatment addresses your unique medical history, including illnesses, accidents, surgeries, medications, diet, and lifestyle. Osteopathic treatment is not a "protocol". Instead, each patient receives personalized treatment tailored to their specific needs, unique body, and treatment goals..
What is Cranial Osteopathy?
Cranial osteopathy is the application of osteopathic philosophy and treatment as it relates to the cranium (head). Cranial osteopathy (also known as osteopathy in the cranial field or craniosacral treatment) is a hands-on medical treatment performed by a licensed physician that supports the normal anatomy and physiology of the craniosacral mechanism, as it relates to the whole body. The craniosacral mechanism involves the connections between the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) and the sacrum (tailbone), and their interrelationship with the entire body. Dysfunction in the craniosacral system can have far-reaching negative effects on the entire body.
Consultation with a
licensed physician trained in cranial
osteopathy is recommended.
Who
may diagnose and treat using cranial
osteopathy?
In the U.S., only licensed physicians may perform cranial osteopathy (also known as osteopathy in the cranial field or craniosacral treatment), as it is a hands-on medical treatment based upon formal medical education, residency training, and continued post-residency training in osteopathy. In the U.S., licensed physicians who perform cranial osteopathy have received a formal medical education within the full scope of traditional medicine. In addition, these doctors have completed thousands of hours of specialty training in the proper diagnosis and treatment of the craniosacral mechanism, including extensive study of complex cranial anatomy and physiology.
In the U.S., consultation with a licensed physician trained in cranial osteopathy is recommended. This ensures that the patient receives the most accurate diagnosis as well as the safest and most effective treatment.
In my professional opinion, caution is advised when considering receiving treatment from non-physician practitioners.
